Most conversations about Chinese vehicle exports start with market demand. They should start one step earlier, with supply structure: what is physically sitting in a yard on a given morning, and how much of it belongs to how few nameplates. We pulled our own live inventory on 3 November 2026 - 1,512 active listings - and counted brands, series and model years directly, without sampling.

What 1,512 live units actually contain

The snapshot holds 19 brand records, 234 distinct series and 16 model years, running from 2008 to 2026. It is not an even spread. The 2021–2024 window alone accounts for roughly two thirds of everything listed, with 2023 the single densest year. Anything older than 2018 exists in double digits or single digits per year - present, but not something to build a container plan around without checking availability first.

The concentration curve

Rank the brands by live units and the curve bends early and hard:

Geely Galaxy - 303 units, 20.0% of the yard

Volkswagen - 250 units, 16.5%

Toyota - 153 units, 10.1%

Hyundai - 136 units, 9.0%

Honda - 115 units, 7.6%

BYD - 109 units, 7.2%

Kia - 100 units, 6.6%

Those seven names together hold 1,166 units - 77.1% of the total. The top three alone reach 46.7%. The remaining twelve brand records share 346 units, and five of them - GAC, Trumpchi, Deepal, ORA and NETA Auto - sit at four units or fewer. That long tail is real stock, but it is opportunistic stock: it moves when a specific buyer asks for it, not when a container is being filled.

Concentration is not the same as sameness

The more useful number sits one level below the brand. Within the seven core names, individual series run deep across model years, which is what makes a repeatable order possible:

Corolla - 81 units spread across 11 model years, 2008 to 2024

Passat - 51 units across 12 model years, 2013 to 2024

Emgrand - 51 units across 6 model years

Golf - 43 units across 7 model years

Lavida - 25 units across 11 model years

T-Roc - 21 units across 6 model years

For an importer this is the practical difference between buying a nameplate and buying a specification. A series with eleven model years behind it lets you hold the model constant, then step the year to fit a budget band or a destination market's age limits. A series with one or two years of stock gives you no such room - you take the year that exists.

Condition spread is wider than brand spread

Mileage tells the same story from another angle. Of the 1,512 units, 173 are under 5,000 km and a further 123 sit between 5,000 and 10,000 km - nearly one in five is effectively new-condition. The bulk, 508 units, falls between 30,000 and 60,000 km, and 287 are above 60,000 km. Only 26 units in the entire yard are flagged as new vehicles; the rest is used stock with documented mileage.

That distribution matters more than the brand list when a buyer is matching a tender or a dealer-network spec sheet. Two units of the same series and year can sit 40,000 km apart, and the inspection file - not the nameplate - is what decides whether both belong in the same shipment.

What this means when you build an order

A concentrated yard rewards buyers who work inside the top seven names and punishes those who assume the long tail is permanent. If your market needs a specific low-volume model, the honest answer is usually a sourcing request with a lead time, not a stock line. Equally, a single-brand container is comfortable to negotiate but leaves you exposed to one supply channel; a mixed container built from three or four of the core names is the more resilient structure in a market where demand shifts faster than shipping schedules.

Key Takeaways

Seven brand records hold 77.1% of 1,512 live units; the top three hold 46.7%.

234 series and 16 model years sit behind that concentration - depth, not just volume.

Corolla (11 model years), Passat (12) and Lavida (11) offer the widest year choice within one series.

Roughly one unit in five is under 10,000 km; a third sits between 30,000 and 60,000 km.

Treat the twelve-brand long tail as request-based sourcing, not as standing inventory.

Stock composition changes weekly. If you are planning a Q1 order, send us the series, model year range and mileage ceiling you need, and we will confirm what is actually available before you commit to a loading plan.
